Well its week 6 and I thought it's about time to finally make a blog post, and who knows, it might even be the first of many!
I will begin by addressing the new name of my blog - 'Cycle to escape the cycle?'. I felt the need to change the title from 'Sustainable Consumption' as I thought it lacked 'creative edge'.
The title of my blog represents one way in which we can try and move away from the viscous circle our society currently finds itself in, a.k.a unsustainable consumption.
The reason I chose to base it around cycling was two-fold. Firstly because I'm a keen cyclist due to the opportunity to keep fit, race, get around easily, and spend time outside soaking up the country air. Secondly, as it has allowed me to act in a more sustainable way when it comes to transport. After going through three cars last year, while spending most of my previous summers earnings on insurance, petrol, and maintainance etc I realised that not only had I been acting in a way which could be seen as unsustainable for the environment, but there was no doubt that it was unsustainable for my wallet! (Perfect opportunity for dad to say 'I told you so') Finally, by not owning a car anymore, it's clear to me how often I drove to places where I could have easily cycled, or didn't really need to go to in the first place.
That's pretty much it for now, but there will definitely be at least one more blog post to come as I started this post intending to write about something completely different before getting caught up on the new title.
I hope you've enjoyed reading,
Next post: 'To shower or not to shower'.
The other handy thing about cycling for necessary travel is that it makes exercise a non-issue.
ReplyDeleteGetting into the habit of going to the gym or swimming every week is hard. Getting into the habit of cycling to uni is easy.
